New hands at Discoveryland Ranch

SAND SPRINGS — Discoveryland in Sand Springs — once famed for its outdoor productions of Oklahoma! — is getting a new lease on life. The property is now operating as Discoveryland Ranch, under the ownership of new proprietors Tim and Kelly Jackson, who say their top goal is to revive Oklahoma! on the historic stage.

Originally built in the 1970s by World Changers Inc. and the Jeffers Family, Discoveryland featured a 2,000-seat amphitheater, camping grounds, concession areas, and a “trading post.”

It became nationally recognized in the 1980s as the official outdoor home of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!

Performances ran through summer seasons until the venue’s closure in 2011, and the site was officially shuttered by 2014. In 2019, a buyer acquired the property with a vision to turn it into a multi-use event destination, and renovations—including to the amphitheater and a new event center—began around late 2020. Now, as Discoveryland Ranch, the site is open to weddings, concerts and community gatherings — blending the storied past of the property with new event possibilities.
