One dead, three injured in Creek County rollover crash

BRISTOW — A Bristow man died and three others were injured last Thursday in a single-vehicle rollover northwest of Bristow, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Jacob Brown.

The fatal collision occurred around 1:21 p.m. on July 17 along 417th West Avenue, about 500 feet north of 151st Street South in rural Creek County.

Brown said a 1994 Chevrolet 1500 pickup driven by 19-year-old Destin Renfro, of Bristow, was traveling southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway to the left and rolled approximately two and a half times before coming to rest upside down in a field.

A passenger, 21-year-old Xzavier Harjo, of Bristow, was ejected approximately 100 feet from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at 2:58 p.m. at Carrus Lakeside Hospital in Bristow by Dr. Monica Winford. Troopers said Harjo suffered massive injuries in the crash.

Another passenger, 26-year-old Jeffrey Benham, of Mannford, was partially ejected and transported to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa in guarded condition with internal injuries. A third passenger, 22-yearold Nathanael Rodriguez, of Depew, was treated and released from St. Francis Hospital with external injuries.

Renfro, the driver, was transported to St. John Hospital in Sapulpa, where he was treated and released with internal injuries to the trunk.

According to Brown, none of the vehicle's occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Weather conditions were reported to be clear.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, as does the condition of the driver at the time of the crash.

The incident was investigated by Trooper Jacob Brown of the Traffic Homicide Unit, with assistance from Trooper Wesley Johnson of the Tulsa County Detachment and Trooper Hayden Vernon of the Creek County Detachment.
