SAND SPRINGS — A Sand Springs woman was injured Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle while walking along State Highway 97 in Osage County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:03 p.m. March 26 on SH-97 about 0.12 miles south of Scarlet Oak Drive.
According to OHP, a 2026 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Teresa Lumpkin, 68, of Sand Springs, was traveling northbound when it struck a pedestrian, identified as Kathy Murray, 62, also of Sand Springs.
Troopers said Murray was walking in the roadway near the center line in a dark, unlighted area and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash.
Lumpkin told investigators that other vehicles had been flashing their headlights at her shortly before the collision, which she believed may have been due to her own bright lights. She stated that she then suddenly observed a person in dark clothing in front of her vehicle. Despite braking, she was unable to avoid the collision.
The vehicle struck Murray with the front passenger side panel and the passenger-side mirror, according to the report.
Murray was injured in the collision. Her condition was not released.
