Drumright Tornado baseball started last Monday at home against Davenport and the Tornadoes beat Davenport, 9-1. I will admit, Davenport did have one of their best players out, but our guys played a great game, they were very fired up.
The game was tied 0-0 going into the second inning when the Tornadoes erupted for seven runs. Senior Cody Gregory had a big double, knocking in Garrett Wright and Jagger Willing. Wright had been walked and Willing hit by a pitch. This was after senior Carsen Mattox singled in Brady Osbourne and Howdy Wright, who are freshmen.
The Tornadoes were up 7-1 in the fifth. Jagger Willing pitched a great game, striking out six batters and giving up very few hits.
In the bottom of the fifth, Cody Gregory was hit by a pitch. Lincoln Fisher singled, Brady Osbourne’s ground out scored Gregory. Howdy Wright doubled, Sammy Blackburn singled. And Carson Mattox doubled in Howdy Wright and Blackburn. Jagger Willing had a lot of help from his fielders.
Sammy Blackburn at short, and Garrett Wright in center made some great catches. Others making plays were Osbourne at second, Cody Gregory at first, making a catch after a bad throw. Blackburn made a play almost in the grass, scooped it up and threw out the runner.
Coaches Hunter Kirby, in his Tornado debut had the team ready and B. J. Osbourne also did a very good job of pointing things out.
Terry Mattox also is an assistant. Thenextgame,theTornadoesbeatWeleetka,10-0.Weleetka looked big and athletic, but shot themselves in the foot. The game went four innings. Sammy Blackburn had three hits, Jagger Willing walked all three times. Garrett Wright walked. Cody Gregory walked in the first inning scoring Blackburn. Lincoln Fisher singled in Garrett Wright and Jagger Willing. Conrad Reed singled in the second, scoring Blackburn and Jagger Willing. Brady Osbourne singled, scoring Lincoln Fisher. Howdy Wright walked during the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Osbourne singled in Cody Gregory and Lincoln Fisher. Howdy Wright walked and Carson Mattox singled, scoring Osbourne and Howdy Wright, ending the game 10-0 Tornadoes.
It would have been 11-0 but a run rule after four innings is 10-0. Mattox ended both games with game-winning rbi’s.
I wasn’t there at Mounds Thursday, but the Tornadoes lost 5-2. Lincoln Fisher and Sammy Blackburn pitched during the game. Garrett Wright pitched in the Weleetka game and stuck out six batters. He had defensive help from Cody Gregory, Conrad Reed at catcher throwing out two base runners. Carson Mattox tagged out the base runners.
