Tornadoes lose to Quinton 64-14 at home

The Drumright Tornadoes lost at home to Quinton 6414.

Going into the game, I underestimated Quinton.

The first time we played them was our third game of the season and they only beat us 28-14. After beating Foyil 56-6 and playing one of our best games of the season, we followed it up with possibly our worst game of the season.

Our struggle with big, fast running backs continued. Plus their quarterback was extremely fast, he may have had over 200 yards.

After Quinton ran the ball the first three quarters, they started passing it deep connecting. Their number 11 had a long 49 yard touchdown to end the game on the mercy rule with just 8 minutes to go in the game. I just don’t remember him from our first game.

For Drumright, the first touchdown of the game came after Aiden Lumpkins recovered fumble at the five yard line. Several plays later Garrett Wright scored from five yards out.

Later on, Lumpkins scored a touchdown on a kickoff from 75 or 80 yards. Sammy Blackburn caught the two point conversion from Garret Wright.

The Refs never cause you to get beat 64-14, but the Quinton quarterback made a bad pitch and Sammy Blackburn recovered it, but the official (I feel like) blew the call. Other times we would make a real good play but we would get called for holding (which we have had quite a few holding calls this season). So they could have been right on that one.

We do not know what our guys are going through out on the field. We don’t want them to quit, so while its easy for us to yell (including me), we aren’t the ones getting hit.

Quinton will have to make a trip to Hollis, which is over 300 miles. Hollis could be Quinton, but Quinton could easily beat No. 3 Hollis.

We lose four seniors from this team.

This was Kamari Louis’ first year to play football since the eighth grade. He did a good job playing on the offensive line, and played even better on defense, recovering quite a few fumbles. He also had quite a few tackles.

Gavin Howell put on some good weight, worked hard to get playing time, he had some really good hits this year.

Even with Carson Mattox getting hurt early in the season, he already had a bunch of tackles. Last year he picked up several fumbles and returned them for touchdowns. He has good instincts.

Jagger Willing, he and Maddox were All-District Defensive players last year. Willing had a bunch of yards last year and tackles too. Two years ago when we played Davenport, he probably weighed 135 pounds but you would have thought he weighed 190 0n the hit.

We had seven players out for injuries or other reasons by the end o the season.

Willing suffered his injury the first game of the season against Pioneer. They say he could be back for baseball.

I think all things considered, going 6-5 is nothing to be ashamed of. Biggest successes are off the field. We have a core group of guys who worked hard, never quit, and showed up every day.

I’d like to thank Eddie Reed and the Quarterback Club for the work they do week in and week out.

Garrett Wright had 34 yards on 13 carries, Cordae McCormick had 24 yards on 10 carries. Wright was 7 out of 17 for for 55 yards. Chase Creekmore,AydinCoffelt,KeeganWard,COrdae McCormick, he ran down the running back when the running back was 25 yards ahead of him (kept him from getting a long touchdown), Sammy Blackburn, Aiden Lumpkins, Kamari Louis, Kypton Ward, Conrad Reed had one catch for 10 yards, Sammy Blackburn 3 catches for 32 yards. Cordae McCormick 3 catches for 7 yards.
