SHAWNEE — A balanced effort from seven runners carried Prue to a fourth-place team finish Saturday at the NRC Pre-State Cross Country Meet at North Rock Creek High School.
Junior Jordan Hendrix led the Rockets with an 18th-place time of 19 minutes, 48.25 seconds in the 5,000-meter boys Class 1A race. Senior Josh Puma followed close behind in 25th at 20:16.25, while senior Llamyl Rodriguez crossed in 29th at 20:28.01 to keep Prue in the top five of the team standings.
Freshman Jacob Stucks (60th, 23:35.53) and sophomore Logan Bailey (67th, 24:52.39) rounded out the scoring five, helping Prue total 116 points. Laverne won the team title with 22 points, well ahead of runner-up Oklahoma Bible (72).
Sophomore Zane Lovelace (71st, 25:33.90), freshman Zane Harbison (78th, 26:18.50) and senior Armando Chavez (85th, 27:18.78) added depth for the Rockets, while senior Caleb Sogge gutted out a 103rd-place finish in 39:17.11.
The meet drew schools from across western and central Oklahoma and served as a preview for the state meet course.
