Olive Wildcat football is 4-2 this football season. They opened up with a 50-36 win at Kremlin Hillsdale. The second game they won 36-30 against Bowlegs. They they lost to Maud 42-39 in a game they led until late. Olive came back and thumped Graham Dustin 48-0 and Life Christian, 50-22.
Their district opener was against 4-1 Coyle and they lost 54-9 with 20 seconds left in the third quarter. Now Coyle was very quick and fast. They weren’t very big, but with all that speed, sometimes it doesn’t matter.
Olive hung tough early, only down 14-9, but Coyle’s kick returner returned the next kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Olive does have a field goal kicker. His name is River Stonecypher. He has already kicked a few field goals during his one and a half season varsity career.
He is a sophomore and he can kick the ball to the end zone.
Olive had an opening drive. Quarterback Gavin Nickell had runs of 14 and nine yards. He threw a 40yard pass to Jackson Becker, but it got called back. But on the next play, Nickell hit Becker on a 30-yard pass.
Olive got down to the Coyle 20 and Stonecypher kicked a 30-yard field goal to put Olive up 3-0. Stonecypher kicked it to the end zone but it only took Coyle four plays to score on a 60- yard play, so it as 14-3 and Olive struck back on a 14-play, 80-yard drive. Nickell had 46 yards on three carries. Kody Moore caught a 9-yard pass from Nickell. Nickell scored on a 16-yard run that made the score 14-9 Coyle and Olive had hope. But the next kickoff, a Coyle player returned it 90 yards for a touchdown to make it 22-9 Coyle. Olive played hard but I felt like Coyle got away with several pass interference nocalls and it was frustration for Olive the rest of the night but Olive’s Jase Sylvester, a big lineman, gave several Coyle players nightmares as he hit them like a Mack truck. Becker hit hard, as did Stonecypher and Nickell. Others making defensive plays were Jody Moore, Jason Sparks, Tim Pierce, Gavin Nickell and Kellen Peveler.
Others playing hard were Brian Dodson, Alex Williams, Cody Cohen, Zach Canady, Tyler Conley, T. J. Cotton.
Most of Olive’s district opponents are very tough. Their senior night will be Oct. 30 against Waukomis. The Coaches are Chance Batey, Shane McKinzie, Brock Moore and Chris Batey.
