Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards local groups grant funding

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) has awarded Youth Literacy Grants (YLG) to Jennings Public School and Glencoe Public School as well as a Summer Reading Grant (SRG) to United Way of Payne County (UWPC) to support youth literacy initiatives. These awards are part of over $3.5 million distributed nationally to help K-12 students who are reading below grade level.

YLG funds will assist each school in enhancing their literacy programs by providing new materials, educational tools, and resources that support reading development and engagement.

“We are proud to support local schools working to improve literacy outcomes for students,” said Denine Torr, Executive Director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “Every investment in education is an investment in a brighter future, and we’re grateful to the schools and organizations that help students thrive.”

The SRG will support UWPC in the creation or expansion of summer reading programs. To be eligible for this grant nonprofit organizations, schools and libraries must see certain criteria including target K-12 students who are new readers, below grade level readers, and assist readers with learning disabilities.

The Foundation awards grants annually to schools, libraries, and nonprofits located within 15 miles of a Dollar General store or distribution center. The next application cycle for SRG will open in January 2026 and YLG applications will open in March 2026.
