Oilton youth praised for cemetery beautification

OILTON — A group of seasonal interns for the City of Oilton has earned praise from city officials after completing a weekend beautification project at Highland Cemetery.

Synch Ford, Colton Begley, Christian Tabor, and Jet Rogers were recently hired by the City of Oilton to perform seasonal mowing and weed eating work on city properties. According to City Clerk Shannon Wilson, the group has gone above and beyond.

This past Saturday on May 2 they worked to improve the appearance of the cemetery as part of their ongoing duties.

“Armed with weed eaters and cold drinks they worked diligently to complete their first major assignment,” said Wilson. “They took great pride in their work and showed respect to each headstone throughout the process.”

Wilson explained the interns were brought on to assist with seasonal mowing and weed eating and are working under the supervision of OPWA supervisor Brice Wilson. Beyond routine maintenance, their internship provides hands-on experience in city operations including exposure to job-related responsibilities such as addressing water leaks.

“This opportunity is designed to provide them with the knowledge and experience they will need for their future careers,” Wilson said.
