Dear readers, I am Caleson Coon and the summer 2026 intern for Cimarron Valley Communications. I grew up in Okemah, OK, along with receiving my high school diploma from my hometown in 2024.
Growing up, I always had a deep fondness and understanding of words and literature, which led me to pursue a dual degree in multimedia journalism and English at Oklahoma State University.
Even before writing my first article, I knew print media was where I wanted to plant my roots as a journalist. And though it took me a year to do so, I finally began writing for The O’Colly, OSU’s student newspaper, in the beginning of my sophomore year. In the spring semester, I had the opportunity to serve as the assistant news and lifestyle editor, and now serve the Editor-in-Chief for the summer and will continue this role in the upcoming fall term. In my brief moments of spare time,Ienjoyrereading“Persuasion” by Jane Austen, collecting clothes and watching DVD’s, taking photographs captured through the lens of my camera, going to the theater with my dad or wandering aimlessly through my favorite library in OKC. Not to forget daily journaling or preparing lessons for my Sunday School Class at my home church that’s led by my close-knit family – the very reason Sunday has always remained the sweetest day of the week for me.
As an intern, I intend to report with transparency, consistency and accuracy while learning the many things I don’t yet know from the capable staff at The Cushing Citizen. This internship will serve as a part of the foundation of my journalism career in all my current and future journalistic endeavors. You can expect to find articles from me regarding how national issues are impacting you and your next door neighbors, personality profiles and more each week you pick up the paper.
