Girls lose to ADA JV
The Drumright varsity girls lost to the Ada JV 32-25. The ladies were shorthanded because of injuries. We have lost three starters over the course of the season. Two of them were our leading scorers from last year. Another one is our point guard. Another promising player got hurt in the game. It’s an unbelievable situation. In fact, we’ve had all sorts of injuries this school year.
I highly doubt, with everyone playing, we would have been much older than the Ada JV. We were way behind, 26-11, in the middle of the third, when the foul limit hit (5 fouls a quarter). It was two foul shots after five fouls, plus the Lady Tornadoes player their hearts out. They got to within four, 27-23, but Ada’s JV hit a three and it just broke our backs — not literally — but we were four of 15 from the free-throw line. Most teams cannot overcome that.
Makay Reed led scoring with 13 points and I needed a calculator to to count her steals.
Aubree Brimmer, who is the most improved from last season had 6 points inside. Reed hit a three-pointer in the game that helped the Lady Tornadoes come back in the third. Brianna Wright played as hard as anyone and hit a three, but suffered an injury late in the game. Lauren Janzen played point guard. It’s hard to change your whole position. Aubrey Allen played in her first game and played hard and made a free throw. Others playing hared were, Torin Bray, Macy Meyers and Boston Lunsford.
The varsity boys outscored the Dove Science Rockets 19-1 in the last quarter to run away with the game 69-26.
Keaton Jensen led scoring with 19 points — 10 in the third quarter. Zaiden “Blue” Stewart had 12 points on four out of six from the line, and great hustle. Keagan Ward had 8 points — five in the third quarter. Kypton had 7 on three out of four from the line. Garret Wright hit a three and finished with 8 points. Sammy Blackburn had 4 points on fast breaks. Caleb Sloan had 4 points and was two for two from the line. Gunnar Wright hit a three and is becoming a crowd favorite. Abel Robbins had three steals in a little more than a minute. Austin Tull had quite a few rebounds in the game. Also Playing hard were Tyler Carter, Jay Welch and Bryce Faires.
The Lady Tornado coaches are Lauren Campo and Alyssa Fuxa. The Tornado boys are coached by Jason “Sharp Dressed Man” Bray, Miles Ledgerwood, and Terry Mattox. Thursday through Saturday, both our boys and girls will be in Glencoe at the Glencoe Tournament. The boys will play Latta JV and the girls will play Glencoe. Get with the school on game times.
