DRUMRIGHT — Drumright football coach Chris Elerick is leaving Drumright to coach at Enid. He was 26-10 as a head coach at Drumright. His first year here, we made it to the state quarterfinals before losing to Velma Alma and we finished 1`2-1 that season.
On homecoming, we beat a highly regarded Garber team 80-46. We averaged over 50 points a game.
The next year we got to the quarterfinals again as the OSSAA split up Class B. We got to host a playoff game against Keota and won 20-6. The first year, we had hosted two playoff games and wn a thriller against Caddo in the last seconds to win 60-54. The second season, we were 8-4. The first season, we beat number 1 Regent Prep, 32-37 in a wild finish. The third season, we finished 6-5 with a lot less experience, but we beat teams we weren’t supposed to beat. The Tornadoes will be in 11-man football next year unless something changes. Coach Elerick will take over a once-elite program that has fallen on very tough times and they were playing teams like Bixby and Mustang. They were0-10 last season, so he’s got a big job to do, but I’m sure the Enid fan base is very hungry for a winner.
He wow also a very god athletic director here. I wish him luck and I will miss our interviews. It is not known who the Tornadoes will hire for a head coach. That first year, we were rated number 2 in Class B. We had a party, with cake, after finishing the regular season, 10-0 after a game with Olive. A ton of people showed up.
