SAND SPRINGS — Drivers in Sand Springs and west Tulsa will face additional lane closures beginning Tuesday as nearly $10 million in bridge rehabilitation work gets underway along U.S. 412 and State Highway 97.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation will begin three separate projects involving bridges over 177th West Avenue, Main Street, 49th West Avenue, 33rd West Avenue and the Arkansas River.
The largest of the projects, valued at $6.5 million, will replace bridge decks and repair substructures on U.S. 412 over Main Street in Sand Springs and over 49th West Avenue and 33rd West Avenue in west Tulsa.
Traffic over Main Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Two lanes in each direction will remain open at 49th West Avenue and 33rd West Avenue.
The project is expected to continue through late spring 2027, weather permitting.
Another U.S. 412 project will begin over 177th West Avenue in Sand Springs. The more than $3 million project includes replacing the decks on both bridges and repairing the bridge substructures.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the construction area. Work is also expected to continue through late spring 2027.
ODOT will also begin repairs Tuesday on the northbound SH97/Wilson Avenue bridge over the Arkansas River.
The approximately $460,000 project includes substructure repairs, joint sealing and flood coating. Northbound SH-97 will generally be reduced to one lane during construction.
Both northbound lanes will reopen from 6 to 9 a.m. on weekdays to accommodate morning rush-hour traffic.
That project is expected to be completed in early 2027.
The new work comes as drivers are already navigating other bridge projects along the U.S. 64/U.S. 412 corridor.
U.S. 412 remains narrowed to one lane in each direction at the Arkansas River and Keystone Lake in Pawnee County. That project is expected to continue through fall 2027.
Drivers are also limited to one lane in each direction on U.S. 412 over Shell Creek between 177th West Avenue and 129th West Avenue in Sand Springs. Work there is expected to continue through early 2027.
ODOT is advising motorists to allow extra travel time and use caution through the construction zones.
