STILLWATER — A 23-year-old male patient has been jailed on $25,000 bond pending an Oct. 1 court appearance on a charge of attacking a female nurse in the mental health unit of the Cushing hospital, six months after he was placed on probation for attacking another medical care provider in McAlester.
If convicted of shoving a Cushing nurse into a wall and kicking her repeatedly in the head, Zakkary Glen Dale White of Boley, who is 6' and weighs 270 pounds, could be given a two-year prison term, according to the felony charge filed last week.
White was arrested by Cushing Police Officer Sara Reynolds at 12:17 pm on Sept. 19, about 22 minutes after she was sent to the mental health floor of Hillcrest Hospital of Cushing, court records show.
The officer alleged in an affidavit, 'When I arrived, I spoke with medical staff, who advised Zakkary White, a patient of the hospital, had assaulted a nurse. The nurse had gone to give White his medicine when he attacked her because 'she was being mean.' 'While speaking with the medical staff, I could hear White yelling and hitting the door of the room he was placed into. He was hitting the door so hard it was causing the entire wall to shake.
'I also spoke with a nurse practitioner, who advised that White knew he was not supposed to hurt anyone and that she had been noting in her medical notes all week that White did not benefit from the program and needed to be seen elsewhere. 'I stepped inside the first room, and White was asked to turn around and get onto his knees, which he did. Once I entered, White was placed under arrest for assault and battery upon an emergency medical care provider and transported to the Cushing City Jail without incident.
'I received a witness statement from another medical provider, who witnessed the incident. She stated that White had been in his room and reported to the nurse that he had punched holes in his wall. The nurse began pulling his medication.
'When she approached White, he charged her and shoved her into the wall. He then proceeded to kick her in the head multiple times.'
Only six months earlier, White had pleaded no contest to assault and battery on a male medical provider by punching him on the back and side of his head on Aug. 23, 2024, in McAlester, for which he was placed on four years' probation under a deferred sentence, Pittsburg County court records show.
