OKLAHOMA CITY — Following the resignation of Ty Burns the process to fill the Oklahoma State Representative District 35 seat — which represents parts of Creek, Noble, Osage, Pawnee, and Payne County — is officially underway.
The Pawnee County Election Board has confirmed that the candidate filing period for the vacant legislative seat will take place on October 6, 7, and 8. During these three days eligible individuals interested in running for the position can submit their candidacy paperwork.
Additional dates and details for the general special election will be announced following the candidate filing period, depending on the number of candidates who qualify.
In Payne County, voters residing in House District 35 should note that a special primary election is scheduled for December 9, according to county election board employees.
A special election to determine who will represent District 35 at the State Capitol was called for by the state governor after Burns’ resigned following a guilty plea to domestic violence and assault.
Voters in District 35 are encouraged to stay informed and check their registration status to ensure they are eligible to vote in any upcoming elections related to this vacancy.
