Whitlock Walking Trail resurfacing completed in Drumright

DRUMRIGHT — The Whitlock Walking Trail is o cially complete - marked by the fi nal step of resurfacing the trail last week on Jan. 7.

The trail located in Whitlock Park, 601 South Jones, has been developing for some months. According to Drumright City Manager Shawn Gibson, the total cost of the project was $18,500 — a cost that was lessened thanks to an anonymous donation.

“This project was funded by a private donation to the City of Drumright,” said Gibson. “This contribution will have a lasting impact on our community… The upgrade helps ensure it remains fi t for purpose for years to come.”

The trail features a quarter-mile loop designed to promote walking and exercise for residents of all ages. In addition to the new surface updated signage was installed along the trail. The signs were previously donated by the TSET Healthy Living Program serving Creek County.

Gibson said the resurfaced trail provides numerous benefi ts to the community including improved safety and accessibility.

“The resurfaced trail is safer, more accessible, and will encourage more people to enjoy the outdoors and stay active,” he said. “The upgraded trail will benefi t a wide range of users, including walkers, runners, families, older residents, and people with mobility challenges.”

He added that the trail was commonly used and emphasized the improvements as a community asset that attracts both local residents and visitors to the park.
