Building fund increase being sought for Central Tech

DRUMRIGHT — Central Technology Center will have a building fund increase on the April 7 ballot. An approval would mean an additional two mills for the center and cost homeowners an estimated $22 per year for a $100,000 property valuation, according to Kent Burris, a Central Tech representative.

Burris said CareerTech districts in Oklahoma are allowed to collect up to five mills for building funds and that Central Tech has remained at three mills since 1996.

“It’s been 30 years since we’ve asked for any additional funding,” Burris said.

He further explained that the district served about 1,200 full-time students last year but had to turn away 402 applicants due to lack of space. Enrollment demand is expected to continue to increase over the coming years.

“It's not a big deal unless you're one of those 402 who can’t get back into the stream,” Burris said.

Burris said the funding would support facility expansion, the addition of new programs, and continued growth of the district’s career exploration program for middle school students.
