Tornadoes lose to Yale 46-20

The Drumright Tornadoes traveled to Yale Thursday night for a district game. Bad weather was predicted to come in later so kicko was at 5 p.m.\\ The Tornadoes looked very good for most of the fi rst half. Coach Chris Elerick said "We didn't play well or respond well in the second half." It was 24-20 Yale at the half. Elerick continued "You can't have six turnovers, and miss as many tackles like we did and win." The tornadoes led 20-8 as Garrett Wright connected with Aiden Lumpkins for two long touchdowns and a two-point conversion.

Lumpkins had 7 catches for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns. Cordae McCormick had 8 catches for 65 yards and had 7 carries for 45 yards, Keegan Ward caught 4 passes for 40 yards, Sammy Blackburn had 1 catch for 14 yards, and Conrad Reed had two catches for two yards.

Wright fi nished 22 out of 34 passing for 259 yards and two touchdowns. He had 31 yards on 12 carries and scored the fi rst touchdown of the game on a two yard run.

Things changed for the Tornadoes after having a 20-8 lead.

Yale's Lucas Reece, a 230 pound running back (I'm just guessing, he might have looked bigger to our defense), had to have over 200 yards.

We were okay if we got him at the line, but if he got an opening and got his wheels going he was tough to stop. He had several long touchdown runs.

Ben Whitsett scored two touchdowns and fi ve two-point conversions. He had one 55 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Kaden Teter there the ball well. He completed 7 passes for 79 yards, one being a 45 yard pass to Lucas Reece. Reece at 230 pounds was bigger than any of our lineman. The Tornadoes had out gamed Yale with over 200 yards to Yale's 96 yards before they turned the ball over the last six drives.

We didn't punt the ball once. Totally bizarre. Yale scored 5 out of 6 in the last 6 possessions. The Tornadoes had 335 yards total and Yale had 349 total yards.

Yale had some great hits on defense. Former Drumright player in Junior High Hunter Anson played well for the Bulldogs and kicked o well.

Aiden Lumpkins had 17 tackles for the Tornadoes, Kamari Louis had 8 tackles and 1 fumble recovery, and Keegan Ward had 7 tackles.

Others who played hard were Krypton Ward, Aydin Co elt, Chase Creekmore, Conrad Reed, Sammy Blackburn, Alex Dana, Max Gray, and Gavin Howell.

I have to mention that four Drumright defensive starters from the fi rst game of the season have been hurt or out since the fi rst three games. One was hurt in the sixth game.

Several Yale starters have been out also. Next is senior night for our fi ve seniors, Jagger Willing, Carson Mattox, Kamari Louis, Gavin Howell, and Jesse Fisher. Willing and Mattox were injured early and are out for the rest of the season.

A dang shame.

They were all district last year. The opponent on senior night is a much improved Depew team. Coach Elerick said "Depew throws the ball really good, they have three good receivers, and their team plays real hard." This game might be for second place in district. A di erence between playing at home against Caddo or at Caddo. Or if Caddo beats Dewar at Dewar. Heaven forbid. Dewar is last years state champ.
