JENNINGS — Jennings resident Zola Harvison was recently honored by Centenarians of Oklahoma and inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame.
Harvison was born in March 1926 alongside her twin sister, Lola Mae. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday, marking a century filled with family, hard work and community ties.
Harvison and her husband, Carol Harvison, shared 55 years of marriage and raised three children. She speaks proudly of her husband’s military service during World War II. A Purple Heart recipient, he was held as a prisoner of war in the Philippines for three years.
Harvison worked at Hissom Memorial Center in Sand Springs and later in a local school cafeteria. She said she always preferred to stay busy.
Christmas remains her favorite holiday because it brings the family together.
After a century of life, Harvison offered a simple piece of advice for younger generations: “Stay working and don’t be lazy!”
