CREEK COUNTY — On the night of March 24 at approximately 9:30 p.m., according to reports the Olive Volunteer Fire Department (OVFD) was called to assist Silver City Fire Department in a water rescue operation on Keystone Lake near the Cimarron River. The emergency involved a person who had capsized a kayak in the middle of a cove near the 38500 block of 31st Street.
OVFD officials said members responded swiftly and deployed its specialized water rescue boat team along with a thermal drone to aid in the search. During the operation, a drone pilot from the Creek County Sheriff’s Office successfully located the individual and their kayak on the west bank.
Rescue efforts were launched simultaneously from multiple directions with a ground team approaching from the west side near 401st Street and Olive’s boat crew advancing from the east bank while an additional drone provided aerial support and overwatch for responders.
The individual was safely recovered according to reports and medically evaluated on-site eventually being transported by boat to a waiting ambulance. The kayaker was then treated for hypothermia.
OVFD noted that this incident highlights the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between multiple agenciesanddisciplines, demonstrating how teamwork and rapid response can make a critical difference in saving lives.
