MANNFORD — Mannford Board of Trustees recently approved a series of no parking signs for several streets in a local neighborhood.
During a recent meeting, Trustees approved no-parking signs for: the east side of South Salt Creek Drive, both sides of Angler Avenue, both sides of Bass Bay Circle, and both sides of Elk Place. City Manager Gerald Haury explained parking concerns stemming from what residents believe is a nearby short-term rental property led to the sign requests.
'Supposedly, an Airbnb is renting to people who are inviting too many visitors and they are blocking neighborhood drives,' he said.
As of July 24, an Airbnb listing was available near the impacted area. The property was identified on the platform as a 'Guest Favorite' with a 4.92-star rating. Records from the Creek County Assessor list the property's owner as Home Away Homes, LLC.
Despite the trustees having approved the signs, before they are installed alternatives to alleviate roadway congestion are being considered, according to Haury. He said residents agreed to a postponed sign installation while officials look for another solution to the parking issues.
'The residents requesting the signs have agreed to let us postpone the installation and let us look at another possible solution to the parking problem,” he said.
Haury said if an alternative is agreed upon, the Trustees would have the option to repeal its previous action and replace it with a different approach. While awaiting for a solution that addresses congestion without requiring permanent parking restrictions the no parking signs remain approved.
For now, parking signage on the area streets remain unchanged until further action is taken by the board.
