MANNFORD — A proposed public hearing concerning the possible de-annexation of four Lakeview Trust properties from the City of Mannford has been moved to the Mannford Board of Trustees’ next meeting on Sept. 17, according to a town hall spokesperson.
The original agenda item listed on the regular trustee meeting held on Aug. 13 called for discussion and possible action on setting a public hearing regarding the proposed de-annexation.
The properties involved are Lots 35, 36, 43 and 59 in Wright Acres No. 2 — an addition in Creek County. Mannford City Manager Gerald Haury stated the properties were somehow only partially annexed into the city at some point in the past.
“Part of the property was annexed, but not all of it,” he said. “I believe the owner is wanting all her property to be under the same jurisdiction since all the property is connected.”
He further explained the original annexation occurred before he became city manager several years ago and that he did not have details about the circumstances surrounding the original action.
According to Haury, the potential de-annexation would not be expected to significantly impact city services or finances. He said the city already does not provide utility services to the area and police, fire, and emergency medical services would not change if the properties were removed from the city limits. Additionally, the city does not currently collect property taxes or other revenue from the properties, according to him.
“There is no impact on the city,” Haury said. Haury said he was not aware of any major issues such as liens, utility account balances, or zoning matters involving the properties that would impact or be impacted by de-annexation. He also said he had no concerns with the proposal based on the information available to him.
“It won’t change anything,” he said. Haury emphasized that the trustees approving the item it would simply allow for the setting of a public hearing and would not constitute approval of the de-annexation. Public hearings are intended to provide an opportunity for public input before the board makes a final decision regarding the deannexation.
The Lakeview Trust de-annexation matter is anticipated for further trustee discussion the during the Sept. 17 meeting.
