Robert Marshall honored with sign installation

DRUMRIGHT — On Thursday, Jan. 15, the City of Drumright hosted a sign installation ceremony to honor longtime resident, community advocate, and sports writer Robert Marshall. Marshall has become known for his decades of support and knowledge of Tornado athletics.

The ceremony recognized Marshall’s dedication to covering local sports and promoting school pride through consistent reporting, commentary, and endorsement for student athletes at Drumright Public Schools.

City officials, community members, students, and numerous other supporters gathered to commemorate the installation of the road sign that renames a section second street, located just in front of the DPS Activity Center, to “Robert Marshall Drive”. The sign now stands as a permanent tribute to the impact Marshall has had on Drumright sports as well as the entire community.

Speakers included Mayor Mark Whinnery who read aloud the official proclamation and brief statements from other supporters who highlighted the role Marshall’s sports coverage plays in preserving community history, celebrating student achievement, and fostering school spirit.
