GARFIELD COUNTY — A Pawnee man died last Thursday evening after his vehicle struck the rear of a commercial vehicle stopped at a railroad crossing in Garfield County.
Dustin J. Laffoon, 32, of Pawnee, was pronounced dead following the July 23 collision, according to a preliminary collision report.
The crash occurred at about 6:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 412 at 78th Street.
Investigators said a commercial vehicle driven by James N. Jones, 47, of Scranton, Arkansas, was traveling east on U.S. 412 when it stopped at a railroad crossing with its flashers activated. Laffoon, who was also traveling east, approached from behind and struck the stopped vehicle.
Laffoon was injured and died as a result of the collision. The report indicated he was not wearing a seat belt.
Jones and his passenger were not injured. The report indicated not all occupants of the commercial vehicle were wearing seat belts.
The collision remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
