SAPULPA — Friday, October 9, is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the November 3 General Election said Creek County Election Board Secretary, Vicki Martin.
Martin said that persons who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17 and a half years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote by election day.
Applications must be received by the County Election Board during business hours or postmarked no later than midnight, October 9. Applications postmarked after that time will be accepted, but will not be processed until after the General Election.
Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed. Approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Some may receive a letter explaining the reason(s) the application could not be approved. Martin said those who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should contact the County Election Board office immediately.
New applicants may register to vote using the OK Voter Portal’s Online Voter Registration System at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp. (A current and valid Oklahoma Driver License or State ID is required for online registration.) Voter Registration Applications can also be download from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/ elections or obtained from your County Election Board.
The Creek County Election Board reminds voters that applications must be approved by the Secretary of the County Election Board in order to vote.
Current registered voters who have moved to Creek County from a different county or state will need to complete and submit a new Voter Registration Application in order to update their voter information. Most other changes such as mailing address or party affiliation can be made online at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp.
“For example, if it’s been a while since you’ve voted, or you’ve recently moved, or changed your name, now is the time to make sure your registration information is up to date. We want everyone to have a positive experience at the polls.”, Martin said.
If you need to make updates, you may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal’s Online Voter Registration System at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp. Voter Registration Applications can also be download from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/elections or obtained from your County Election Board. While updating driver’s licenses, applications may also be submitted by the deadline at any motor vehicle agency (Service Oklahoma), which is also an official voter registration agency.
Changesmustbesubmitted no later than 25 days before an election. Changes submitted after the deadline will be processed following the election. Applicants whose registration forms are accepted will be mailed a new Voter Identification Card. Applicants whose registration forms are rejected will be notified in writing.
Martin said voters who encounter an issue with their registration information on Election Day can always cast a provisional ballot with a signed affidavit. Provisional ballots (if valid) are counted after the election, but before election results are certified.
