DRUMRIGHT — The City of DrumrightBoard of Commission approved an ordinance Oct. 13 updating the language of the city’s building code regulations to reference the International Building Code edition adopted by the state of Oklahoma.
Ordinance 355 amends the city’s existing provision, Section 9-1-1, which establishes the building code used within Drumright city limits. The previous language, adopted in 1999, referenced the BOCA National and International Building Code.
City official Shawn Gibson said the ordinance removes the BOCA (Building Officials and Code Administrators) National reference and replaces it with the International Building Code, using the current edition adopted by the state.
The ordinance retains the existing language establishing standards for construction, alterations, demolition, building use and occupancy, maintenance, permits and related matters.
It also includes provisions repealing conflicting ordinances to the extent of the conflict and ensuring that if a portion of the ordinance is found invalid, the remaining provisions can remain in effect.
The ordinance does not specify individual technical code changes or local amendments.
