Juvenile, passenger injured in Osage County ATV crash

SAND SPRINGS — A 10-year-old driver and an adult passenger were injured in an ATV crash Wednesday afternoon in Osage County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred at about 5:19 p.m. April 22 on County Road (Main Street), about a quarter mile south of County Road (Park Road).

Troopers said the juvenile, whose name was not released, was operating a small 125cc ATV southbound with a 47-year-old passenger riding behind. Neither occupant was wearing a helmet.

According to investigators, the ATV was reentering the roadway at a high rate of speed when the front tire struck the edge of the pavement where it meets the grass. Troopers said the front wheels lifted off the ground due to the road edge and weight distribution, causing the driver to lose control.

Both the driver and passenger were thrown from the ATV and landed in the roadway. The vehicle came to rest off the road.

Both occupants were reported injured. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
