Marketing and Communications Specialist for Tulsa City-County Library SAND SPRINGS – In partnership with the Sand Springs Women’s Chamber of Commerce, Pratt Library and Charles Page Library rewarded four lucky readers — Samantha Russo, Dak Douglas, Easton Lemaster, and Allison Tanner — with brand-new bikes and helmets on Monday, Aug. 4.
“This is one of our favorite summer traditions,” said Stacy Lister, Charles Page Library manager. “It’s a great way to reward kids for their reading and celebrate community support.”
Two customers from Charles Page Library and two from Pratt Library were randomly selected to win the bikes in a grand prize drawing, which was open to children who not only completed the Summer Reading Program but who went above and beyond by reading a total of 20 books over the summer. Buddy Bookworm joined the celebration with high-fives, a dance party and his signature smile.
Christine, the mother of one of the winners said, “We’ve done the Summer Reading Program for years, and we spent the last couple of weeks really reading hard as a family, determined to get our lists finished, and then there we are. We got the call about this, and it’s a really cool little godsend.”
With 20 books completed, what is next for these young readers?
Debbie, grandmother to one of the winners, said, “School is starting, and that’ll be a new adventure this year.”
The Women’s Chamber of Commerce, who generously donated the bikes and helmets, has a mission to advance literacy through charitable, civic and literacy programs in Sand Springs.
