Our two Tornado teams travelled to Olive last Tuesday Lady Tornadoes The Lady Tornadoes, coached by Lauren Campo and Alyssa Fuxa blasted Olive 54-17.
Against some of these other teams, the ladies seemed to have some stage fright. Holding onto the ball too long, even when they were way behind. That did not happen against Olive.
The Ladies forgot about being young and took it to the Wildcats.
Evie Ools got things started inside and set the tone for other things to happen.
Freshman Lauren Janzen had 17 points hitting a three and flew by anyone around her. So did Makay Reed, both stole the ball and scored on fast breaks.
Alyssa Roe hit a three and dealt out quite a few assists. Aubree Brimmer hit a three that she wouldn’t have even tried to shoot last year.
Seemed like everybody stole the ball. The ladies had a 49-9 lead at one point during the game. I do not think that the second time these two teams play each other that Olive will play like that, I know their coach.
Janzen led the Lady Tornadoes scoring with 17. Ools and Reed had 10 each. Roe had 8, Brimmer 5, Braelynn Wright hit a 3, Addie Ingraham had quite a few steals and hit a three. Others playing hard were Zoe Neinhuis, Kaylee Jo DeShazer, Caitlin Roden, Maycee Myers, Torin Bray, and Willow Mattox.
For Olive, Jacy Jenkins had 4 hitting a three, Lilly West hit both of her free throws, Abby Ochoa hit a three, Aaliyah Colbert 2, Elle Harmon hit both of her free throws, Amber Henshaw had 1 point, as did McKenzie Oliger. Also playing hard for the Lady Wildcats was Kierston Ott. Olives coaches are Jon and Stephanie Peveler.
Tornadoes The boys game was very exciting as the Tornadoes coached by Jason Bray, Mike Ledgerwood, and Naye Hubble were behind Olive 29-21, but Garrett Wright did his best Roadrunner impersonation (beep-beep) and beat Olive down the court many times for layups. He had 19 points.
The final score was 61-49 Drumright. The Tornadoes trapped Olive a lot, especially in the second half. Bryer Maxville for Alice had 38 in the game at Olive last year, and I believe Bray wanted to limit his touches.
Keegan Ward had 17 points, he and Wright both hit threes. Ward drove to the basket quite a bit. Keaton Jensen had 15 points from mid range, Rhett Cearley scored 8 inside and had six points in the last quarter on follow shots, helping us out a lot. Sammy Blackburn had 2 points with good hustle. Kypton Ward played great defense and was pretty fired up. Lincoln Fisher also played hard.
For olive, Bryer Maxville had 17 points, but is still hard to stop. Kellen Peveler had all 10 of his points in the first half, hitting 2 threes. Gavin Nichols had 9 points hitting a three and did well driving to the basket. Kelson Peveler had 6 points all in the first half, and Jaxon Backer had 6 points inside, Noah Kelsey had 2 points. Others on the team are Alex Williams, Alex Holycross, Aiden Ochoa, Zach Condey, and Brian Dodson. Olive had another game where they beat Billings 90-23. Their coach is Rennie Nickell.
The Tornadoes played Dove Science Academy out of Oklahoma City.
Lets get ready to rumble. Dove Science is in their first year so they were very raw and very rough. One of their guys looked like he was 25 years old. I thought he was the assistant coach until he started playing.
Keaton Jenson had a huge night with 43 points, hit midrange, and his plays underneath were unstoppable.
Keagan Ward had nine points and got hammered a lot.
The Tornadoes pulled away the second half after having a 41-27 lead and won the game 6931. Rhett Cearley tore it up inside with 12 points, Abel Robins had 2 points as did Lincoln Fisher. Sammy Blackburn had 1 point.
Kypton Ward again played hard on the defensive end.
Others playing hard were Chance Patterson, Austin Tull, Kyler Carter, and Bryce Faires.
As rough as the game was, cooler heads prevailed and they got in the prayer circle with is after the game.
