Jennings, Cleveland School leaders earn OASA honors

OKLAHOMA CITY— Two area school administrators have been recognized among the best in the state, recently earning top honors from the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators (OASA). Both of whom will be honored during the CCOSA Summer Leadership Conference, scheduled for May 27–29.

Jennings Public School Superintendent Derrick Meador has been named the 2026 District 4 Superintendent of the Year, while Cleveland Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sherri Pankhurst was selected as the District 4 Assistant Superintendent/Central Office Administrator of the Year.

“This honor reflects the very best of Oklahoma leadership — superintendents who lead with vision, navigate complexity, and remain deeply committed to the success of every student across our state,” said Dr. Pam Deering, executive director of the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration.

Deering also emphasized the critical role of assistant superintendents and central office administrators in supporting district success.

“These leaders work alongside the superintendent to translate vision into action, navigate complexity, and keep the district moving forward,” she said. “Their partnership, service, and focus on results make a lasting impact on their districts and communities.”

Meador, who is completing his 27th year in public education, has served as superintendent at Jennings Public Schools for nine years. He said the recognition reflects the collective effort of his district.

“I’m proud of the progress we’ve made at Jennings Public Schools, but this recognition belongs to our teachers and staff,” Meador said. “Their dedication and hard work drive our success each day. It also reflects the commitment to excellence shared by our students and community.”

The Oklahoma Association of School Administrators is divided into 20 districts across the state, with honorees nominated and selected by their peers within each district.

The OASA awards are presented annually and recognizes different individuals in the education profession. Those awarded the superintendent and assistant superintendent/central office administrator of the year demonstrate excellence in educational leadership including a strong philosophy of education, the ability to inspire and motivate others, and a commitment to professional growth. Honorees are also selected for their ability to advocate for education and make meaningful contributions to school administration.
