The Drumright Tornadoes delivered one of their most impressive performances of the season Friday night, dominating Mounds 56-12 at Riddle Field.

The Tornadoes wasted little time establishing control, scoring two touchdowns in less than three minutes to take a 14-0 lead.

Garrett Wright helped spark the offensive surge with a 39-yard touchdown run before connecting with Zayden Stewart on a 45-yard touchdown pass. Wright also delivered a perfect performance on extra-point attempts, converting all eight kicks.

Stewart made his presence felt on both sides of the ball, intercepting a pass and returning it 40 yards to give the Tornadoes another big play.

Wright's performance extended beyond his offensive contributions. His consistency as a kicker has become an important weapon for Drumright, and his dedication to improving that skill was evident throughout Friday's contest.

Wright has continued putting in extra time and effort to perfect his kicking skills, demonstrating how additional work in practice can translate into success on Friday nights. His perfect 8-for-8 performance on extrapoint attempts was a reflection of that commitment.

Jay Welch has also contributed to Drumright's kicking game. Welch is the first Tornado kicker since Toby Ledgerwood to use a soccer-style kicking approach, providing another dimension to the team's special teams.

The Tornadoes have increasingly demonstrated their ability to capitalize on opportunities, turning defensive stops and turnovers into points while maintaining an aggressive offensive attack.

Sammy Blackburn continued his remarkable season, recording his seventh interception and returning it for a touchdown. Blackburn has established himself as one of the team's defensive leaders, consistently making plays that change the momentum of games.

His ability to read opposing offenses and react quickly has made him a dependable presence in Drumright's secondary. Blackburn is among the state's leaders in interceptions, and his ability to create turnovers has provided the Tornadoes with scoring opportunities throughout the season.

Austin Tull also turned in another solid performance, continuing to establish himself as a reliable contributor for the Tornadoes. His consistency and willingness to do whatever is needed have been important to Drumright's success.

On defense, the Tornadoes received strong contributions from several players.

Deering turned in one of his most impressive defensive performances of the season, repeatedly finding his way into the Mounds backfield. Deering recorded his highest tackle total of the season, disrupting plays and helping the Tornadoes maintain control defensively.

Floyd Wright also had a strong night running the football while providing a physical presence at linebacker. His toughness and ability to contribute on both sides of the ball have given the Tornadoes additional versatility.

Colton Reed provided another steady outing, displaying the consistency and leadership that have become trademarks of his play. Reed has developed into one of the players Drumright can count on each week.

Kylan Ward continued to be a strong presence for the Tornado defense. Ward has consistently ranked among the team's leading tacklers throughout the season, using his physicality, effort and determination to help set the tone defensively.

Anthony Fisher also played an important role in the victory, bringing toughness and physicality to the line of scrimmage. Fisher continues to be a valuable contributor in the trenches, where his effort and willingness to battle on every snap help create opportunities for his teammates.

Miles McIntire has also emerged as an important contributor, stepping into a tackle position on the offensive line. McIntire has begun realizing his potential in recent weeks, showing increased confidence and physicality in his play.

The progress among Drumright's offensive linemen has been especially encouraging as the season advances. The Tornadoes have increasingly recognized the importance of playing as a unit and giving maximum effort on every snap.

As the team becomes more comfortable with its schemes and responsibilities, the players' confidence and execution continue to improve. That development was on full display against Mounds, where Drumright's offense created opportunities for big plays while the defense made critical stops and forced turnovers.

The victory did not come without mistakes. Drumright was penalized 11 times for 105 yards, an area the Tornadoes will need to improve as the schedule becomes more challenging.

Still, the team's progress has become increasingly evident.

The Tornadoes have demonstrated growth in every phase of the game, from the offensive line creating opportunities for big plays to the defense making critical stops and forcing turnovers. Their ability to execute assignments and work together has improved throughout the season.

Friday's 56-12 victory was more than another win. It reflected a team continuing to gain experience, build confidence and develop its identity.

The Tornadoes will face another challenge Thursday, Oct. 15, when they travel to Gore for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Gore has a strong football tradition and has played a challenging schedule, setting the stage for another important test for Drumright.

With the improvements the Tornadoes have shown on both sides of the ball, Thursday's matchup provides another opportunity to demonstrate how far the team has come.
