The Drumright Lady Tornado softball team won their district at Drumright.
They beat Afton 25-0, Yale 8-0 and Yale again 13-1.
The Lady Tornadoes had no problem against Afton, getting 11 runs in the first inning. The game was never in doubt.
Kaiton Vann hit two home runs and had five RBIs on 3-of-4 at-bats. Alyssa Roe was 3-for-3 with six RBIs. Aubree Brimmer was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Hannah Janzen was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Aubrey Allen was 2-for-4 with one RBI, Christy was 2-for-3, Lunsford was 2-for-3 with doubles, and Bailey Parrott was 1-for-1 with one RBI.
The second game against Yale was a little more difficult as Kinley Britton, Yale’s best pitcher, kept Drumright off balance. She struck out two batters.
Only four Lady Tornadoes hit the ball. Boston Lunsford got three hits in three at-bats with three RBIs, Lauren Janzen was 3-for-3 with one RBI, Kaiton Vann was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Alyssa Roe was 1-for-2 with one RBI. Aubrey Allen had one RBI.
Vann struck out seven batters. She had help from Brimmer, Wright, Christy, Lunsford and Fair.
Kinley Thurman was 1-for-1, Zoey Muggenborg was 1-for-2, Kinley Britton was 1-for-2 and Kinsey Pittser was 1-for-3.
Defensively, Gracy Akins was at third, Kinley Thurman at shortstop, Zoey Muggenborg in left field, Lily Collins at second, Zoe Ross at catcher and Kinley Pittser in center field.
The last game, the Lady Tornadoes won 13-1. The game ended on a walkoff grand slam by Brinlee Christy and a wild celebration happened.
Brinlee told me, “It felt great.” Vann said, “It felt great,” on her home run in the first game.
Actually, Yale led 1-0 going into the bottom of the third, but the Lady Tornadoes scored six runs.
Addy Ingraham walked. A wild pitch scored Ingraham. Roe walked, Janzen doubled in Roe, Vann was hit by a pitch, Wright walked and Lunsford singled. Wright scored when Yale tried to get a runner out at second. Tinley Freeman tripled in Lunsford, Christy singled in Freeman and Kailen Roden ran for Christy.
Zoe Neinhus a lot of times runs for Vann.
In the bottom of the fifth, Roe and Janzen both singled. Vann singled in Roe, Janzen singled, Wright was hit by a pitch, Lunsford singled in Zoe Neinhus, Freeman walked, and Christy then hit her first fast-pitch home run, a grand slam that ended the game.
For Yale, Ross was 1-for-2 with a double, Muggenborg was 1-for-2 and Britton was 1-for-2.
Vann struck out three Yale batters. She had help from Freeman and Brimmer, who had a double play, Lunsford, Roe and Ingraham.
Mena Watkins did a pretty good job of pitching, giving Britton a rest. She didn’t strike out any, but she made the Lady Tornadoes pop up a few times.
Britton came back in and struck out. Britton had to pitch again after earlier, quite a few innings, and pitched the whole first Drumright game and some of the second Drumright game.
For Drumright, Christy was 2-for-2 with five RBIs, Roe was 2-for-2, Janzen was 2-for-3 with one RBI, Vann was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, Freeman was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Lunsford was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Yale’s Britton and Watkins had help from Lily Collins, Kinley Thurman and Ross.
Yale is in only its second year of fast pitch. They beat Afton 21-11. Their coach is Nate Folger. Drumright coaches are Leslie Robinson and Emily Green.
The Lady Tornadoes sometime this week are headed to Drummond and play Drummond, who is rated No. 6. Other teams are No. 11 Waukomis and No. 22 Garber.
Hey, it’s better than going southeast. The Lady Tornadoes’ record is 16-11, and we had a tough schedule.
It’s not known where Oilton is headed. They beat South Coffeyville at Oilton to win their district.
