Tornado Watch with Robert Marshall

People asked me “is Oklahoma Union on Mingo in Tulsa?”

‘Fraid not. This is North of Tulsa near Nowata. After our tough loss to Pawhuska, we had to regroup, and we did 40-18.

It was Deathly Hot. One of our players might have suffered a Heat Stroke or Heat Exhaustion. We had a 20-0 lead, a 2013 lead which made me nervous, but we scored 20 points in the third quarter. The game looked like it might be a Defensive struggle at first.

Conrad Reed intercepted a pass on Oklahoma Union’s first drive. Later in the first, Garrett Wright scored 1 of his Touchdowns from 35 yards out. In the second quarter, Andrew Deering caught a 17 yard pass for a Touchdown, and Jay Paul Welch kicked 2 extra points.

We have not kicked an extra point in 10 years, when Toby Ledgerwood used to kick. Several plays later Sammy Blackburn intercepted, and ran it back 35 yards.

Two plays later the Tornadoes scored when newcomer David Fisher who moved in from Barnsdall caught a 30 yard Touchdown pass from Garrett Wright. That made it 20-0 Drumright, but later in the first half Oklahoma Union scored back to back Touchdowns as Okla. Union’s quarterback started running at will, and scored a 74 yd Touchdown. Right before half the quarterback again scored from 7 yards out. It was 20-12 at the Half.

Drumright, The third quarter Wright passed Okla. Union to death, Blackburn, Reed, Hicks, Deering, and Zaiden “Blue” Stewart all caught passes. The fourth score was scored on the only run of the Drive, a 6 yarder by Garrett Wright.

Welch kicked 4 out of 6 extra points on the night. Conrad Reed intercepted a pass, and ran it 35 yards for a Touchdown, Wright got another running Touchdown, this one from 55 yards, it might have been more, it put the Tornadoes up 40-12.

Oklahoma Union had a 20 yard Touchdown run. 9/10 of the yards on the Drive, came from a player they were calling Durock. Final score Drumright 40 Oklahoma Union 18.

Garrett Wright was 19 of 28 passing for 262 yards, he rushed for 121 yards on just 7 carries, the Tornadoes only ran the ball 11 times all night, as Okla. Union had some real big guys on the Defensive line.

Catching passes for Drumright were David Hicks with five passes for 100 yards, Sammy Blackburn 8 catches for 88 yards, Conrad Reed 3 catches for 38 yards, Andrew Deering 2 catches for 14 yards and a Touchdown, and “Allen Stewart” 1 catch for 8 yards. Hicks caught 2 Touchdown passes. Deering the ball 4 times for 14 yards.

Defensively, Kypton Ward, Conrad Reed, Anthony Fisher, BB Barber, Sammy Blackburn, Austin Tull, Cane Hollabaugh, David Hicks, Ayden Coffelt, Jay Paul Welch, Miller Allen, Andrew Deering, Mason Cooper, Jaxon and Jack Mathers, Zaiden “Blue” Stewart, Garrett Wright, Dalton Collins, William Stump, and Miller McIntire did well.

Cameron Bell also played for the Tornadoes on Friday night. Next game will be at undefeated Barnsdall who won their last game, scoring 63 points. The game is at Barnsdall 7:00. Coaches for Drumright are Mark Ryan, Moses Williams, Hunter Irby, Kevin Coach, and James Offehous.
