Bristow man dead, Mannford man hospitalized following rollover accident

BRISTOW — A 21-year-old Bristow man was killed and three others were injured in a single-vehicle rollover Thursday afternoon about 10 miles northwest of Bristow, according to Trooper Jacob Brown of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit.

Brown said the crash occurred at 1:21 p.m. July 17 on 417th West Avenue, about 500 feet north of 151st Street South in rural Creek County.

Brown said a 1994 Chevrolet 1500 pickup driven by Destin Renfro, 19, of Bristow, was southbound on 417th West Avenue when, for an unknown reason, the truck veered off the left side of the road and rolled about 2 ½ times before coming to rest upside down in a field.

Brown said passenger Xzavier Harjo, 21, of Bristow, was ejected about 100 feet from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at 2:58 p.m. at Carrus Lakeside Hospital in Bristow from massive injuries.

Renfro was transported to St. John Hospital in Sapulpa with internal injuries to his trunk and was later released.

Another passenger, Jeffrey Benham, 26, of Mannford, was partially ejected and admitted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa in guarded condition with internal injuries, Brown said.

Brown said a fourth occupant, Nathanael Rodriguez, 22, of Depew, was treated and released from St. Francis with external trunk injuries.

Brown said the truck was equipped with seat belts, but none of the occupants were using them. He said it is unknown if the vehicle had airbags.

Brown said the condition of the driver and the cause of the collision remain under investigation.
