Drumright outlines storm response

DRUMRIGHT — City officials in Drumright emphasized coordination with utility providers, emergency readiness, and prioritizing essential roadways as winter weather impacted the area last week.

Drumright City Manager Shawn Gibson noted several ways that the city responded to the low temperature that hit statewide.

“All City water wells are equipped with generators and will continue to operate even if electrical power is lost,” Gibson noted. “The City’s water and streets departments are on 24hour call for emergencies.”

He further noted that while Drumright is provided electricity by OG&E leadership remains in close communication with the utility company during all severe weather conditions in an attempt to stay aware of any problems that may arise.

In reference to roadway clearing Gibson clarified where responsibilities lay. Although the city assists when possible using available equipment, Highway 33, also known as Broadway, is maintained by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT).

“The city typically clears streets that serve as main arteries, including routes to schools, the hospital, and other essential services,” said Gibson.

In the event of further severe weather Gibson encouraged residents to contact Police or Fire Dispatch at 918-352-2151 for any urgent issues or to report concerns.
