Fireworks Safety

A bright Fourth of July can turn dangerous quickly if fireworks are not handled with care.

Only adults should light fireworks, and children should never handle or ignite them. Light one firework at a time, then move back quickly. Never point fireworks toward people, pets, homes, vehicles or dry grass.

Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby in case of fire. Never try to relight a “dud.” Wait, soak it with water and throw it away.

Use fireworks only outdoors and only where they are legal. Avoid lighting fireworks near buildings, trees, fields or anything that can burn.

The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional show and let trained crews handle the sparks.
