In a special election held on Dec. 9 people in District 35 of the Oklahoma House of Representatives cast their vote to fill a seat that was vacated earlier this year. There was no candidate who received over 50 percent of votes meaning the top two overall vote getters — Dillon Travis with 753 votes and Mike Waters with 520 votes — will be advancing to the Jan. 13, 2026 runoff. All other candidates did not receive enough total votes across all District 35 counties to move ahead Election Results for District 35 position:
• Dillon Travis, received 30.41 percent of total votes.
• Mike Waters, received 21 percent of total votes.
• James Winn, received 20.56 percent of total votes
• Kevin Wright, received 20.36 percent of total votes
• Amber Roberts, received 7.67 percent of total votes
In Creek County the two top vote getters were Winn with 34.8 percent or 111 of county votes and Wright with 32.92 percent or 105 of county votes. Total votes in Creek County were as follows; 58 votes for Travis, 24 votes for Roberts, and 21 votes for Waters.
With the Dec. 9 special primary concluded, voters are now focused on the upcoming runoff between Travis and Waters. The Republican nominee will then face Democratic nominee Luke Kruse in a February contest that will determine who will serve out the remainder of Burns’ term and represent District 35 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
