OLIVE — The Olive Volunteer Fire Department has received a US $5,000 fire service grant from Factory Mutual Insurance Company (FM), one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers.
Because fire remains the leading cause of property damage worldwide, FM has contributed millions of dollars in grants to fire service organizations around the globe for nearly 50 years.
“At FM, we strongly believe the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable,” said Michael Spaziani, assistant vice president – manager of the fire service grant program. “Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent the organizations working to prevent fires from being as proactive as they would like. With additional financial support, grant recipients are actively helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”
This grant purchased three iPads placed in Engine 1, Rescue 1 and Brush 2 which will allow us to coordinate emergency incidents by looking at critical pre-incident plans while responding to and while on-scene, mapping, weather conditions, hazardous materials databases, aerial drone operations and computer-aided dispatching.
Additionally, it will support non-emergency operations including ongoing preincident planning, fire inspections, and investigations.
Through its Fire Service Grant Program, FM awards grants to fire departments—as well as national, state, regional, local and community organizations worldwide— that best demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the most demonstrable impact on helping organizations better prepare for emergency incidents, ultimately enhancing safety and resilience in the community.
