Pruitt case now includes 53 felony counts

DRUMRIGHT — A former Drumright agriculture teacher accused of sexually abusing and physically assaulting students is now facing 53 felony charges after investigators said more than 20 alleged victims came forward during an investigation that expanded across decades and multiple Oklahoma school districts.

Bobby Gene Pruitt, 62, of Bristow, was initially charged Jan. 30 in Creek County District Court with six felony counts. Prosecutors filed a second amended indictment June 17, adding dozens of additional charges and substantially widening the scope of the case.

The amended charges include 32 counts of lewd molestation, nine counts of child abuse, seven counts of first-degree rape, two counts of forcible sodomy, one count of child sexual abuse, one count listed in the alternative as child sexual abuse or child abuse, and one count of assault, battery, or assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The charges are accusations, and Pruitt is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The case began in October 2025 after Drumright police requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation in a case involving an alleged sex offense by Pruitt, who was then an agriculture teacher at Drumright Public Schools.

According to court documents, Pruitt was placed on administrative leave Oct. 6, 2025. He later resigned from Drumright Public Schools and surrendered his Oklahoma teaching license.

OSBI Special Agent Lynda Stevens wrote in an affidavit that the initial investigation involved allegations from students at Drumright. As investigators continued interviewing students and former students, the case expanded to include allegations from Pruitt’s years teaching agriculture in other Oklahoma districts.

According to OSBI, Pruitt taught for 38 years in several Oklahoma school districts, including Altus, Olive, Erick and Drumright.

The second amended information alleges incidents dating from the late 1980s through 2025. The allegations involve current and former students, many of whom were minors at the time of the alleged abuse.

The earliest charges listed in the amended information allege abuse beginning in 1987. Other counts involve alleged incidents in the 1990s, early 2000s, 2010s and during Pruitt’s most recent time at Drumright.

Court documents describe allegations occurring in agriculture classrooms, school barns, school vehicles, hotel rooms during agriculture-related trips, at livestock shows, on school property and at Pruitt’s home.

The affidavit outlines what investigators described as a pattern in which students alleged Pruitt used his position as an agriculture teacher and sponsor to gain access to students during school, after-school activities, trips and overnight events.

Several alleged victims told investigators they were abused during agriculture trips or livestock events. Others described inappropriate contact in classrooms, school vehicles or barns. Multiple former students told investigators they eventually left agriculture programs, avoided Pruitt or stopped participating in activities because of what they said happened to them.

In the initial Drumright investigation, one student told investigators Pruitt would call him to his desk during class and touch him inappropriately. The student reported the behavior happened repeatedly during the fall 2025 semester, according to the affidavit.

Another student alleged Pruitt forced him to kneel and call the teacher “daddy” during an incident in the agriculture classroom.

Court records also allege Pruitt struck a student with a hammer after threatening to hit him if he did not stop talking in class. That allegation led to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and child abuse.

Investigators said additional Drumright students described similar behavior, including unwanted touching, inappropriate comments and physical contact that made them uncomfortable.

As the investigation expanded, former students from other districts also came forward.

One former student from the late 1990s told investigators he was abused while Pruitt was teaching at Erick Public Schools. The former student said the abuse began gradually and continued during schoolrelated activities and at Pruitt’s home.

According to the affidavit, the former student told investigators he eventually wrote a note saying he planned to kill Pruitt and himself because he wanted to protect his younger brother from experiencing the same abuse. His parents found the note, confronted him and learned what had been happening.

The former student told investigators his parents went to the school after learning of the allegations. Pruitt then resigned from his teaching position at Erick Public Schools.

Another former student alleged Pruitt abused him repeatedly beginning in the late 1990s, including incidents at school, at Pruitt’s home and during schoolrelated travel. The affidavit states that the former student also reported seeing or knowing of other students who were abused.

One former student told investigators Pruitt would pick him up before school and have him help with agriculture-related chores, including work in the school barn and with livestock. The former student alleged Pruitt touched him inappropriately during those times and during school-related travel.

Another former student from Olive told investigators that, during an overnight trip connected to a livestock show, he was assigned to stay in a room with Pruitt. The former student alleged Pruitt abused him during the trip. The affidavit states the student later reported what happened.

Additional allegations in the affidavit involve students who said they were abused or made uncomfortable during agriculture trips to livestock shows and competitions, including overnight stays in hotels. Some former students told investigators they shared rooms with Pruitt during school-related travel.

One former student told investigators Pruitt assaulted him during a trip to Kansas City, Missouri, while the student was in high school. Another alleged victim told investigators Pruitt abused him at least four or five times during school-related travel.

The amended filing also includes several firstdegree rape charges tied to allegations from the 1980s, 1990s and 2010s.

The affidavit states that some alleged victims did not report the abuse when it happened because they were afraid, embarrassed, did not think they would be believed or did not fully understand the seriousness of what had happened at the time.

Several former students told investigators the alleged abuse affected their participation in agriculture programs. Some said they quit, transferred out of agriculture classes or avoided Pruitt when possible.
