Drumright 10U compete at Cushing Districts

The Drumright 10 and Under baseball team, coached by Loren Barnett travelled to the Cushing District Tournament. The winner of the tournament would go to state.

The fi rst game of the tournament was against Kiefer. The Tornadoes started o well, being up 4-0, but Kiefer got it to within one point, 3-4, appearing to have momentum, but that was just an appearance.

Drumright scored 20 runs in the top of the second. No misprint. Beau Barnett was 3-3; Bryson Foster, 3-3; Barrett Kincaid, 3-3; Easton Cartwright, 3-3; Alex Vines, 2-2; Tuxon Staley, 1-2, Trenton Meyers, 2-2; Corbin Rosen, 1-1 and Cason Massey, 1-1. Our assistant coach is Shane Vines. The fi nal score was Drumright 24, Kiefer 5.

Beau Barnett pitched, striking out one in one inning. Cason Massey struck out one inn inning. Alex Vines at catcher made several good plays. Bryson Foster as shortstop and Barnett Kincaid at third made good defensive plays.

The next game was against a very good Stroud team. We got o to a bad start.

We did score a run in the top of the fi rst. Foster doubled and an error scored foster. Barnett also singled in the inning but Stroud scored eight runs in the fi rst. The Tornadoes trailing 9-3 going into the top of the third got four runs. Barnett doubled, vines doubled in Barnett, Tucson Staley hit an inside the park homer knocking in Vines. Tyson Hall walked. Hall walked and was hit by a pitch in the earlier game against Kiefer in the second inning.

Staley also had an inside the park home run against Kiefer, as did Barnett.

We got to within 9-7. Stroud got ahead 11-7. Drumright got two more runs to get to within 9-11 but the time limit caught up with us and Stroud won 11-9.

In the earlier third inning, the Tornadoes got walked walked a lot to get the four runs, It was the third inning where we got two.

Alex Vines struck out four batters. Making defensive plays were Staley at fi rst, Vines at pitcher, Foster at short, Easton Cartwright pitched the last inning.

The next day, in an elimination game, the Tornadoes played Oilton. I didn't start o well as Oilton got there runs in the fi rst. Jeb Carey singled, Chandler McFarland walked and remember this. Name, Nolan Jones smashed a home run over center and the Panthers clawed ahead, 3-0. Jones was also pitching and he struck out eight batters, so in the fi rst, Oilton was ahead 3-0 with no outs, but Alex Vine stopped the bleeding, striking out the next three batters.

The Tornadoes scored a run in the bottom of the second. Easton Cartwright walked and scored later. The Tornadoes tied it up later in the bottom of the third. Bryton Foster laid down a perfect bunt, Barrett Kincaid tripled, scoring Foster. Later Kincaid scored. It was tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the fourth. Stay was hit by a pitch, Hall was hit by a pitch, Cashton McCombs walked, and Foster doubled in two runs. Kincaide and Staley made defensive plays and Vines struck out one to win the game 6-3.

Vines struck out eight batters.

Hitting for Oilton were Jeb Casey, Jones, Breckin McCool and Hagen Salinas, who had a double. Making defensive plays were Aiden Still at short and Chandler McFarland in center. Other players are Cade Wilson, Cimarron Bagwell, Jace Hanks, John Simmons and Matt Saunders. Coaches for Oilton are Jason Jones, Brian McCool, Evan Saunders and Jordan Poole.

The last game was against a very good Checotah team. In the tournament, two eight-run innings hurt the Tornadoes — one against Stroud and in the fi rst inning against Checotah.

The Tornadoes were behind 9-0 going into the bottom of the second. We got a run in the bottom of the second. In the bottom of the third, we got three more runs. Easton Cartwright doubled, Hall walked, Myers walked, Bryton Foster singled in Cartwright and Kincaid singled in Foster. Checotah got one more run to make it 10-4. Drumright got its fi nal run in the bottom of the fi fth when Cartwright singled and Tuxon Staley doubled in Cartwright.

The guys played great, except for two innings.

Drumright won its league championship and fi nished second in three tough tournaments. Way to go guys. You had a great season.
