OILTON – The leadership of the Oilton Public Works Authority voted 5-1 on September 9 to lock in a winteronly gas rate o $4.84 per unit. The rate, which includes October through April is aimed at avoiding potential spikes during the cold season, according to City Clerk Shannon Wilson.
A Blue Mark representative was initially listed to present the item, however, Wilson explained due to how late the meeting was the representative was unavailable — Wilson presented instead.
Wilson reviewed the presentation documents with the authority members which offered both winter and full-year rate lock options. A 12-month rate could have been set at $4.64 but members opted to revisit longterm pricing in spring.
“I’ll make a motion to lock in at the $4.84 so that we can revisit in May,” said OPWA Vice Chairperson Julie Bagwell.
Brian Barton abstained from the vote suggesting the city explore other suppliers before signing a longerterm deal.
Additionally, city staff reported a recent gas line repair had saved the entity an estimated $7,000 since May. The city’s current gas service contract expires in May of next year.
