The Drumright Tornadoes fought back after losses to three of the top 10 teams in B-1. We won 52 - 12 on homecoming night.
On the fi rst o ensive play of the game, Garrett Wright threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Cordae McCormick who fl ew down the fi eld. This was after he returned the opening On the Tornadoes second o ensive play, Wright ran 37 yards for a touchdown. Aiden Lumpkins ran for the two-point conversion second but with 9:22 left in the fi rst quarter, we scored our fi rst two touchdowns to make it 14-0.
Things didn't get any better for Canton as freshman Keegan Ward and Carson Maddox made life miserable for them.
Coach Chris Elerick said, “ I’ve got to give players credit. They were frustrated about the way the fi rst several games were, but we've been getting better every week. We need to focus, we’re this will Aiden Lumpkins scored on a 48-yard run. Conrad Reed caught a two-point conversion pass from Wright so it was 22-0 touchdowns on six plays.
Stats are weird. You don't count conversions for some reason. Sammy Blackburn got o ensive and scored touchdowns from passes 20 yards out and 55 yards out. The score was 36 to 0, but Canton got back-to-back touchdowns, both caught by No. 7, Smith from quarterback, Dawson one from seven yards out and one from 71 yards out. Both conversions failed, so it was 36 to 12 Tornadoes at the half.
Canton’s best two lineman moved to Seiling, but we beat them 50-14 last year. Garrett Wright ran for touchdowns of 37, 15, and 7 yards. He threw for three touchdowns. Conrad Reed got two passes for 20 yards.
In the second half, the clock ran unless it was an injury time out, and we still scored 16 points. Wright and Keegan Ward had two-point conversions in the second half. Reed caught two twopoint conversions for the game.
The defense held down Canton in the second half to virtually nothing. Players that made tackles other than Keegan Ward and Maddox were Lumpkins, Kypton Ward, William Stump, Blackburn, Max Gray, and Alex Dana. Jesse Fisher intercepted a pass, Keegan Ward intercepted a pass and blocked a punt.
The o ensive line of Kypton Ward, Max Gray, Chase Creek and Gavin Howell all did a good job blocking.
Coach Elrick said, “We go to Canadian Friday night. They have a new coach and they spread their o ense out, looking to new
I think Canadian is somewhere by McAllister. The game starts at 7.
Elerick added, “Canadian record is one and three. This gives us an opponent to get better as a team. '
