Drumright rate increase for gas, water, and wastewater

DRUMRIGHT — The City of Drumright has approved increases to gas, water, and wastewater rates. During the regular meetings of the City of Drumright commission, Drumright Gas Authority, and the Drumright Utility Trust on Dec. 8 officials voted to approve resolutions that increase cityowned utility rates. According to the resolutions, the new rates will take effect with the utility bills to be mailed in January 2026.

The related documentation cited rising operational costs, increased maintenance needs, higher equipment prices, and fluctuations in usage and fuel costs for the increase.

City Manager Shawn Gibson simplified the increase by stating resolution 25-28 would “raise base gas rates $1.00 per 1000 units”, resolution 25-26 would “increase base water rates by $2.50 every 1000 gallons over 4000 gallons”, and resolution 25-27 would “raise base sewer rates $2.50 every 1000 gallons over 4000 gallons”.

The resolution specified cubic feet as the units Gibson referenced for gas rates. Furthermore, gas rates for in-town customers will be a $3.50 administrative fee per meter and $12.50 per 1,000 cubic feet over the authority’s average monthly cost. Out-of-town customers will also pay a $3.50 administrative fee per meter and $15.00 per 1,000 cubic feet over the monthly average cost.

Adjusted water rates for Drumrightcustomerswerespecified to be a $3.50 administrative fee per meter, $28.50 for the first 2,000 gallons, and escalating rates beginning at $6.50 for additional usage, increasing to $7.50 per 1,000 gallons over 4,000 gallons, according to the resolution. For customers in Shamrock and outof- town there will be higher tiered rates while bulk water purchases will carry a $200 minimum for up to 10,000 gallons.

Resolution 25-27 was also approved sewer services to be billed at $19.00 for the first 1,000 gallons, with tiered rates ranging from $5.50 to $8 per 1,000 gallons depending on usage.

City officials said the increases are necessary to maintain infrastructure, cover rising costs, and ensure continued reliability of Drumright’s utility systems.
