Benches installed thanks to donation

CUSHING — Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Cushing Chapter had several commemorative iron benches installed at Cushing Memorial Park and new school complex in honor of America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

According to chapter member Size Crowder, the project was made possible through a generous donation from the Bea and Lionel Harris Foundation. Foundation President Brenda Magdeburg presence the contribution which totaled $3,500 and aided in the creation and installation of six DAR commemorative benches.

Crowder said the benches were closed as a lasting way to celebrate the nation’s milestone anniversary while also enhancing public spaces in the community.

“We are unbelievably grateful,” Crowder said of Magdeburg’s support. “She does so much for the community and I appreciate that she did that immensely.”

Although Magdeburg is not a DAR members Crowder noted that she was quick to help when the chapter reached out regarding the project.

The benches now serve as both a practical addition to a public gathering place as well as a visible reminder of the upcoming anniversary of the nation’s founding, according to Crowder.
