Olive lifter powers way to podium at state meet

EL RENO — Olive’s Speed Looper capped a standout powerlifting season with a runner-up fi nish at the Oklahoma Powerlifting Coaches Association Small School State Championship on March 14.

Competing in the 168-pound division against lifters from Class C through 2A, Looper totaled 1,295 pounds to secure second place in one of the meet’s most competitive brackets.

His performance also helped power Olive to the Class B team state championship, with Looper contributing key points as the district’s lone representative at the meet.

Looper's state fi nish came after a dominant postseason run. He entered the championship as a regional titleholder and previously claimed an 8-man state championship, where he posted a 1,305-pound total behind lifts of 480 pounds in the squat, 305 in the bench press and 520 in the deadlift. Facing a larger, combined classifi cation fi eld at the state meet, Looper remained among the top lifters in his weight class, fi nishing second overall while maintaining his position as one of the area’s strongest competitors.
