Tornado Senior Night

The Drumright baseball Tornadoes had their senior night, or day, you can call it either one.

The game was against Morrison who beat us 13-6.

Coach Hunter Kirby, who might be the youngest Tornado head coach ever, said “Sometimes when we have momentum, we tend to let the other team have momentum back.

“We had won four out of five games going into this one,” Kirby said.

Drumright did a good job of keeping the score close. Going into the bottom of the fifth Morrison led 3-0, then Morrison got 4 runs in the top of the sixth to lead 7-0, but Drumright came back with 3 runs.

Conrad Reed was hit by a pitch, Garrett Wright singled in reed, Brady Osborne singled in Garrett, Jagger Willing singled, Lincoln Fisher walked, and Sammy Blackburn singled in Osborne.

But Morrison increased its lead to 13-3. The Tornadoes didn’t give up that easy. Osborne walked, Willing walked, Fisher doubled in Osborne, a wild pitch scored Fisher, a passed ball scored Fisher but we couldn’t get any more runs.

Hits were by Garrett, Osborne, Willing, Carsen Mattox, Fisher, Blackburn, and Reed. Pitching were Blackburn (who threw 83 pitches in four innings), Willing (49 pitches), Garrett (20 pitches), and Austin Tull (13 pitches).

Defensive plays were made by Garrett in center field, Fisher in left, Mattox at second made a great running catch going towards first. Cody Gregory walked, Willing walked, Fisher walked, and Osborne walked.

The Tornadoes did have one real bad inning finding the plate but the Tornadoes kept from getting run ruled by a class 2A ranked team.

The boys districts will be at home with Savanna.

Coaches for the Tornadoes are Hunter Kirby, B.J. Osborne, and Terry Mattox.

There were five seniors. Jagger Willing, Carsen Mattox, Cody Gregory, Gavin Howell, and Kamari Louis.

The seniors walked around the bases with their parents. Afterward Kamari slid head first into first base headed back from second. It was a nice slide.

Softball The slow pitch Lady Tornadoes have been struggling, but Friday they tied Perkins-Tryon 4-4 and then beat Chandler 9-3. Chandler had beat the Lady Tornadoes early in the season 9-0. We will need that ind of effort in districts at Hominy.

The other team is Ketchum, not sure what day that will be yet.

Slow pitch coaches are Leslie Robinson, Moses Williams, and Kerik Brown.
