The varsity baseball team season ended at Caddo Friday afternoon with an 11-3 loss to Verden. That was the one game I wasn’t at this week.
The first game of the week was at home against No. 15 Mulhall-Orlando. The game did not start well at all as the Tornadoes fell behind 8-0 by the bottom of the third.
Our team seems to play a game of follow the leader. If one player is playing bade, they all play bad. If one starts playing good, they all play good.
In the bottom of the third, Cody Gregory singled and there was an error after that, Garrett Wright and Conrad Reed unloaded the bases with a run 3 triple.
This got us back in the game. It got everybody on a roll with the game, and as bada as we played at first, M-O looked that bad later on, or worse.
Going into our game they were 20-3 with a big 11-10 win over Ripley.
The end of the regular season game, is like a tune up game. You pitch all of the pitchers you might use in regionals. We pitched Garrett Wright, Austin Tull, Carsen Mattox, Brady Osborn, Jagger Willing, Lincoln Fisher, Jay Paul Welch, and Sammy Blackburn. None of the pitched over an inning.
The Wednesday we headed south to Caddo. Our first round
Tornado Watch with Robert Marshall
game was against Verden who was 15-14 but had a tough schedule. It was a total nightmare as Verden beat us 16-1. It was 4-1 going into the top of the third, the floodgates opened as Verden got 6 runs in the third and 6 runs in the fifth.
We made a ton of errors, plus Verden hit the ball hard. We got our run in the bottom of the second. Lincoln Fisher walked and Blackburn grounded out scoring Fisher.
That night we played Mooreland and both teams were evenly matched. We pulled this one out on a walkout single by Cody Gregory. Fisher walked, Blackburn singled in Fisher setting up Gregory’s heroics.
Mooreland had just put in a tall lanky pitcher who was throwing very fast but Gregory hit the ball anyway.
Hitting for the Tornadoes were Blackburn 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Gregory 2 for 3 with 1 RBI. Osborn 1 for 4 with 1 RBI. Conrad Reed 2 for 2. Garrett Wright, Willing, and Fisher 1 for 3. Tull 1 for 4.
Pitcher were willing, who struck out 7, and Tull who struck out one, pitching one inning the top of the seventh.
They had defensive help from Garrett Wright centerfield, Blackburn at short, Fisher in left, and Reed at catcher. When the ball went back to the fence, Reed threw to Jagger for the out. Gregory at first, Wright had a great catch Tull at third tagged out a sleeping runner at third.
When Willing was in right field in the seventh inning he made a great throw to third. It was 5-4 Mooreland going into the 7th. The Tornadoes had 4 comeback wins this season.
I will have the goodbye to seniors next week. Coaches did a good job changing things when they weren’t working well, they are Hunter Kirby, B.J. Osborn, and Terry Mattox.
The Tornadoes finished 14-12. I would like to give a shoutout to Jennifer Paris from Caddo who gave me a ride ti the bathroom that was over a block away, thank you.
