OILTON — Oilton is preparing for a full day of activities as Old Tymer’s Day returns this Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 23 — bringing together residents, alumni, and visitors from surrounding communities for the celebration.
According to Oilton Chamber of Commerce President Christina Begley, this year’s event lineup will feature activities throughout the day including a community breakfast, 5K race, a parade, games, and alumni sporting events.
The day will begin with breakfast hosted by the museum at 8 a.m. at Hope Free Will Baptist Church on Highway 99 across from Main Street.
The museum’s annual 5K race will follow at 8:30 a.m. with registration beginning at 7:45 a.m. Organizers describe the event as “3.1 miles of that beautiful Oilton, America”. Pre-registration is currently open and participants can register by calling or texting Jessica Rouintree at 918-287-8203. The entry fee is $25 and may be paid the day of the race.
Event festivities will continue in the city park throughout the day. The Old Tymer’s Day Pageant is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in the park while the alumni sign-in table will also open at 10 a.m.
Vendors and food trucks are expected to operate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. offering a variety of food, shopping, and activities for attendees. Children’s games, including sack races and threelegged races, are planned from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. One of the longtime crowd favorites — the turtle race — is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the park as well.
The annual parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. and a DJ will provide music throughout the day to help create a festive atmosphere for attendees, according to Begley.
The celebration will conclude with alumni sporting events at Oilton Public Schools. Alumni basketball games are set to begin at 5 p.m. at the high school gymnasium followed immediately by the alumni softball game.
Organizers encourage current and former residents to attend and enjoy a day focused on reconnecting with friends, celebrating community history, and making new memories during one of Oilton’s longstanding annual traditions.
