It’s time to say goodbye to our senior athletes.
Lady Tornadoes
The Lady Tornadoes had a pretty tough schedule playing North Rock Creek, Cushing, Chandler, Perkins, and a very good Kellyville teams. Oh yeah and a really good Hominy team.
We were one game away from making regionals but got off to a rough start in the first inning against Hominy.
Avery Todd loved her teammates and was a very supportive team player. Over her years playing she hit two home runs and several that could have went over.
Paisley Christy overcame an ACL injury that kept her out of fastpitch this year, though she still supported her teammates. She hit several home runs in slow pitch this year. She played first base and was catcher, and did very well.
Evie Ools played several different positions in slow pitch, mainly first base and short stop. She hit several home runs and had plenty of big nights at the plate.
I forgot to mention that Davenport was one of the tough teams that beat our girls. They made it to state.
Tornadoes
Drumright varsity baseball had a lot of highs and lows. They started off with 2 wins over Davenport 9-1 and Weleetka 10-0. They finished third in the Mulhall-Orlando tournament, beating Garber 6-5. They also finished third in the Mounds Tournament beating Mounds 9-1 in the third place game.
Upset 20-3 Mulhall-Orlando 15-11 in a game we were behind 8-0, but the Tornadoes came roaring back for the win.
Hit several in-the-park home runs back to back by Jagger Willing and Sammy Blackburn against Savanna beating them 12-0 for the district title.
13-0 made it a very tough regional at Caddo, but did beat Mooreland on a walk off single by Cody Gregory.
Our seniors had a very tough time with injuries.
Cody Gregory had shoulder problems throughout his high school years, but he finished this season not missing a game, playing right field for awhile but playing first base most of the season. He was a very good first baseman. Especially the second half. He would do anything to get on base. His hitting improved a lot.
Gavin Howell didn’t always get a lot of playing time but he had a great attitude and played all four years. He did some pitching this year and also played some right field.
Kamari Lewis is known for his slide after senior day. He did it for his teammates.
Carson Mattox had an ACL injury early on that kept him out of high school sports for over a year, maybe even longer, but he came back strong. He played a lot of positions on the field. He also pitched, a lot of times as relief, which is one of the hardest things to do. He was also a good power hitter. He hit a ground rule double to help beat rival Depew 7-6 in the Semi finals of the conference tournament at Davenport. He also got the save. He was known for his great hustle. He also suffered another ACL injury, but finished the season.
Jagger Willing suffered an MCL injury this year early on. He played just about everything besides catcher. He had a great hit against Oilton, a triple that knocked in three runs. He also pitched and struck out quite a few batters. On his inside the park home run he was still pretty fast for someone who had an injury.
I will miss all you seniors.
Goodbye to Oilton Seniors.
Oilton slow pitch girls had just one senior, Karlie Kennedy. I did not get to see her play this season, but I have watched her play over the years. This girl is an amazing athlete. She has great speed, she’s a great hitter, and doesn’t get burned in centerfield.
Oilton baseball had two seniors. Izzy Casey had a growth spurt this last season. He played short stop with good range. He also hit the ball well. He was the leadoff batter against Drumright.
Rylan McCool could play anywhere on the field. Mainly he was catcher, but came in and pitched when he was needed. He also played short stop. It’s hard to find anything he’s not good at.
Olive
I have to apologize to Olive baseball and softball. Anybody that wants to talk to me about Olive’s baseball team my number is 918-352-2486.
Football
Coming up the Oilton Panthers will have their first football team in close to 30 years. I hear they will have around 30 players. Hopefully the Drumright Tornadoes will have a bunch also as we move up to 11 man football. We’ve been there before, most of our history has been 11 man.
All-Conference
The All-Conference baseball team came out for Drumright, Oilton, and Olive. Like I said if you have any information about Olive let me know.
For Drumright, Jagger Willing, Garrett Wright, Carsen Mattox, Conrad Reed, and Brady Osborne.
For Oilton, Rylan McCool, Jackson Prather, and Colby Browning.
All-Sports Banquet
I’m sorry that I missed the banquet. MVP was Jagger Willing. Offensive player of the year was Conrad Reed. Co-defensive players of the year were Garrett Wright and Sammy Blackburn.
For Boys Basketball, Keaton Jensen and Garrett Wright made it, and Keagan Ward was defensive player of the year.
The Drumright football coach next year will be Mark Ryan who has been successful at quite a few schools.
I’d also like to congratulate my good friend Gene Carroll who is now in the Drumright Tornado Hall of Fame. He gave a great speech at graduation Friday night.
