Olive athletes gain experience at Crossroads Relay

CUSHING — Olive High School athletes turned in a steady slate of performances Thursday at the Crossroads Relay track meet at O’Dell Field, competing across distance races, sprints and field events against a deep field of teams.

The Olive girls finished 10th in the team standings with 11 points, highlighted by contributions in both relays and individual events.

In the distance events, Lily West led the way in the 800 meters, placing 11th with a time of 3:06.24, followed by teammate Aliyah Colbert in 13th at 3:08.05. The Olive girls also competed in the 4x800 relay, finishing fourth with a time of 13:52.99.

On the sprint side, Megan Arnett paced Olive in the 100 meters, finishing 15th in 15.04 seconds. Arely Perez (39th, 17.19) and Mackenzie Beckner (40th, 17.95) rounded out the Lady Wildcats’ efforts in the event. In the field events, Arnett added a ninth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 12 feet, 6.5 inches. Perez placed 16th in the same event at 10-8.5, while Makenzie Oliger recorded a 14th-place throw of 53-2 in the discus.

For the Olive boys, Jackson Becker led the sprint group with a 14th-place finish in the 100 meters at 12.23 seconds. Teammate Zack Canady placed 23rd in 12.61 and also competed in the 400 meters, finishing 12th in 58.22 seconds.

Becker also competed in the high jump, tying for seventh place after clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.
